It runs in the family

When beautician Karla Boeken took over at the Sterling Presbyterian Manor beauty shop in May, she filled some very familiar shoes.

"My mother Connie Neumann operated this beauty shop for 17 years until forced to retire due to foot problems from standing for so long. It's like coming home. I am honored to be able to operate this beauty shop. Some of my ladies even remember my mom. This warms my heart," said Karla.

Karla's also served as a hairdresser at the Lyons Good Samaritan for many years.

"My ladies mean the world to me. They've mostly all been used to a weekly beauty shop visit for much of their adult lives. The interaction is so important for them to be able to continue to live as they did when they were home."

When she's not helping her Sterling Presbyterian Manor "family" look their best, she enjoys spending time with her family at home.

"I have three daughters and one son. Brooke is 23 and is a trauma nurse at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita and is also an RN at Sterling Presbyterian Manor. Hadassah is 15 and a high school cheerleader. She is also involved in track and loves to attend church in Hutchinson at Crosspoint.

“Jacynn (pronounced Jason) is my youngest daughter, who is 8 and loves to build things and do crafts with her nana. She is a 3rd grader. Derek, my son, is 19, a lifeguard at the local pool and recently left for the United States Marine Corp San Diego. He will graduate boot camp on October 5th."

Karla has been married to her husband Travas for 22 years, and they've known each other since junior high.

We're glad Karla has filled her mother's shoes here at Sterling Presbyterian Manor and is continuing to help our residents feel their best!
